David Hiler

David Hiler, of Brattleboro, VT, lost his left leg above the knee in January 2020 due to a malignant sarcoma isolated to his knee. When given the option to try and save his leg or amputate, he chose amputation so he could continue to live an active and athletic life. An avid marathon runner and snowboarder, he ran in the 2015 and 2016 Boston Marathons prior to his amputation. Hiler co-owns and operates a 200-seat restaurant, 15 barrel brewery and a 45-site campground and event space, all in Brattleboro and enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, travelling and generally being outdoors. David is now working with the Born to Run Foundation and developing a beer called, Born 2 Run, a blood orange Gose, to give back to the amputee community who have been so helpful and generous to him. He credits many members of this diverse and kind community with helping him to get back on his feet, so to speak.
